The importance of ‘me time’
We are an overweight and stressed-out nation, according to two alarming statistics recently in the news.
Two thirds of UK adults are overweight (BMI over 25) and one quarter of men and women are obese (BMI over 30), a report by The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) has found.
Meanwhile, The Government’s Health and Safety Executive has said that 40% of all work related illnesses is caused by stress (428, 000 people reported suffering work related stress during 2022/23).
I’m really saddened to hear statistics like these. Saffron Massage was established to bring wellbeing, relaxation and pleasure into people’s lives. To teach them to listen to their bodies and meet those physical needs we all have as living organisms.
Yes, we all lead busy lives, but looking after yourself is not something you can put on the backburner until a more convenient time – it will be too late!
As well as being a masseuse, I also practise what I preach and have regular massages myself. Even one hour once a month can work wonders to relieve stress, revive your spirit and make you feel good inside and out.
It has so many benefits; the rhythmic stroking and gentle pressure of a massage triggers an improvement in lymphatic flow and drainage. It helps reduce water retention, making your body lighter and tighter and stimulates the skin, improving its texture.
Toxins are flushed out of the body, helping flight infection and white blood cells are pushed around the body, boosting the immune system.
Of course, massage alone is not enough for total wellbeing. A healthy diet, exercise and plenty of sleep are of paramount importance, but making some ‘me time’ and indulging in a long, sensual tantric massage, can certainly help prevent the burn out that so many seem to be suffering from.
